ANAN Core v1.140 — Press Release
Oct 13, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Apache Labs releases ANAN Core v1.140 with a built-in assistant, self-checking settings and full G2-1K support
Free update for ANAN G2 owners adds Ask ANAN Core, Check my settings, a redesigned panadapter with phosphor persistence, a touch tuning loupe, 1 kW amplifier protection and hardened remote operation.
October 13th, 2026 — Apache Labs today released ANAN Core v1.140, the operating software for its ANAN G2 family of software-defined transceivers. The update is free for every owner and installs from the radio's built-in updater. No subscription or licence key is required.
ANAN Core v1.140 brings three themes together. The radio now helps operators solve problems themselves. The display shows more of the band at a glance. And the 1 kW ANAN G2-1K is supported end to end, from accurate power metering to hardware amplifier protection.
A radio that helps you troubleshoot it
Ask ANAN Core is a built-in assistant that answers questions about the radio and helps diagnose problems. It answers from the operator manual, which ships inside the radio, and from the radio's live state. Every answer shows the lookups it made and the manual sections it used, so operators can check where it came from.
The assistant is read-only by design. It cannot change a setting or key the transmitter, and it will not advise bypassing a protection. It is off until the owner turns it on, using their own Anthropic API key or a language model running on a computer on their own network. The key stays on the radio and is never sent to a browser.
Check my settings needs no AI at all. The operator picks what is wrong, and the radio checks the settings and conditions that most often cause it:
- Receive: mute, AF gain, AGC-T, squelch, attenuation, filter width, ADC overload and audio routing, per receiver.
- Transmit: drive, drive limit, TUN power, mic gain, TX audio source and TX filter.
- PureSignal: arming, calibration and feedback level.
- Connection and remote: connection state, p2app, remote password, callsign registration and clock sync.
- The radio's own computer: power-supply under-voltage, temperature and free storage.
Each item shows its actual value, a verdict of Likely cause, Check or OK, and the exact fix in on-screen terms. The same check is included in every problem report, and the assistant runs it first when asked what is wrong.
A panadapter that shows more at a glance
A new Effects setting — Off, Subtle or Full — controls a set of display features. Subtle is the default.
- Palette-coloured trace. The panadapter trace takes the waterfall's colours as a signal rises above the noise, so the trace and waterfall read as one instrument. The noise floor keeps the operator's trace colour on every band.
- Passband spotlight. The waterfall dims outside the receive filter, with a soft edge, so the eye lands on what is being heard.
- Odometer frequency digits. The VFO digits roll as the radio tunes: a tick per encoder step and a spin on band changes. Devices that ask for reduced motion keep static digits.
- Phosphor persistence (Full). Borrowed from real-time spectrum analysers, it leaves a short glow wherever the trace has been. Steady carriers burn in, while bursts, pulsed interference and frequency hoppers stay visible as they come and go. The glow ignores the noise floor and keeps a clear gap around the live trace, so weak signals are never buried.
The filter displays follow the same setting. All effects are measured against the radio's built-in render-statistics overlay, and the one extra graphics pass is reserved for Full.
Built for the G2's touch screen
- Tuning loupe. Press and hold a finger on the panadapter or waterfall and a 4× magnifier opens above it, so the signal is never hidden under the fingertip. It shows where the passband will land; lifting tunes there on the operator's step size, and sliding away cancels.
- Steadier touch tuning. Spectrum displays now own their touch gestures, so the browser can no longer interrupt a drag or a loupe aim part-way through.
- Settings that stick. Each receiver's waterfall speed is now remembered by the radio itself, so it survives restarts on the radio's own screen.
Full support for the 1 kW ANAN G2-1K
ANAN Core now supports the ANAN G2-1K from metering to protection.
- Accurate power and SWR at 1 kW. Selecting the ANAN-G2-1K variant switches ANAN Core to the 1 kW directional coupler's transfer function and a 1000 W power rating, so forward power, reflected power and SWR read correctly across the full range.
- Hardware amplifier protection, explained. The G2-1K's protection controller trips in hardware within microseconds on high reflected power, drain current, supply voltage, heatsink temperature or forward power. ANAN Core removes drive at once and shows a plain-language banner, such as "High reflected power — check the antenna and feedline".
- One-touch reset, everywhere. The banner appears on the radio and on every connected screen, including remote sessions. A RESET AMP button clears the amplifier once the fault is fixed.
- Power scaled to the radio. Power calibration and drive scale with the radio's rated output: 100 W on a G2 and 1000 W on a G2-1K.
Remote operation, hardened
ANAN Core's remote operation needs no client software: any modern browser or phone connects to the radio, protected by a password-authenticated key exchange (SPAKE2+). Sessions connect directly where the network allows and fall back to a relay where it does not.
v1.140 draws a firm line around maintenance. Software updates, p2app updates, FPGA flashing and low-level hardware controls are now available only at the radio. Each of these could cut off the link a remote operator would need to recover. The radio itself refuses these actions over remote, whatever a client sends, while remote users can still see versions, progress and available updates.
Remote users can still ask the assistant and run Check my settings. The assistant's settings, including the owner's API key, can be changed only at the radio.
Availability
ANAN Core v1.140 is available now as a free update for ANAN G2-family radios. Owners install it from Settings → Updates on the radio. The Ask ANAN Core assistant is optional and off by default; it requires the owner's own Anthropic API key or a compatible language model on their network. Check my settings and all other features work without it.
ANAN Core is free software, licensed under the GNU General Public License (version 2 or later), and its complete source code is published for every release.
